LIGHTING ATLAS
The Gowanus Lighting Atlas is a comprehensive survey of the existing electric lighting conditions throughout the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn. Expanding on typical site analysis methodologies, we collected quantitative and qualitative data sets through mapping, measuring, photographing, observing, and interviewing inhabitants. Ongoing surveys will capture a historic narrative of the night-time experience before, during, and after the inevitable large scale development that will take place upon DCAP re-zoning.

Lowlands Masterplan
Working with the Gowanus Canal Conservancy and SCAPE Landscape Architecture, we are developing an overall lighting strategy to address the unique conditions of the Gowanus Lowlands, a future waterfront urban park. Attention is paid to reinforcing connections across the neighborhood, including NYCHA public housing campuses, major street thoroughfares, and existing parks and plazas. The lighting across the Lowlands and adjacent spaces is to be identifiable, cohesive, and in support of the safety and comfort of residents and visitors. We also allow for moments of surprise and delight.
